As befits the diverse nature of the region, each UMAP member
country has organized their UMAP participation differently. In many of the countries of this region, a central
bureaucracy or the "peak body" responsible for international education administers the country secretariat.
In some it is a combination of public and private interests. In more than one member country there is only one
university resulting in a very different approach to membership than is required in larger countries such as the
United States.
For U.S. institutions, participation in UMAP will require becoming a member of U.S. UMAP.
The U.S. UMAP consortium is organized and administered by The Laurasian Institution. To ensure that the program
is responsive to the needs of U.S. colleges and universities broadly, an Advisory Board has been established which
is made up of individuals representative of the diversity of U.S. institution types. At each member institution
a UMAP Contact is named as the primary point of contact for all UMAP-related activities.
