Globalization is here to stay, and its pace in the foreseeable
future will only accelerate. Increasingly, the expansion of the international dimension of higher education is
not so much an option as a responsibility -- for programs, institutions and students within them. Still a very
small percentage of U.S. students study abroad for any significant period.
Moreover, nearly 80% of U.S. students pursuing programs abroad do so on the European continent. By one count, far
more undergraduates study in the United Kingdom alone than in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America combined.
To counteract this well-established trend toward the familiar, U.S. UMAP will present students with sound reasons
and viable options for study in Asia.
